When everyone thinks of Penguins, they think of places such as Antarctica, South Georgia, and The Falklands and Africa does not immediately spring to mind. There are 17 species of Penguins in the world and one of these is resident in South Africa.

The Penguins of Africa (which are found along parts of both the Namibia and South African coast) have had a number of names over the years from Jackass Penguin, African Penguin, and Cape Penguin.  I visited both Boulders Beach and Simons Town whist staying in Cape town and we saw good numbers at both sites during my visit to South Africa.
