One of our popular waders is the Redshank which unsurprisingly is named after its long red legs which are actually orange in colour.

The Redshank is resident all around the coast of both Britian and Eireland, the numbers are swelled by breeding birds which are mostly in Northern England and Scotland.  The Breeding populaion is around 25,000 pairs which is quite a bit less than the wintering population of around 150,000 pairs including many that pass through our coasts as migrants.  It is recored as an "Amber" bird of population decline because of the declining number of Redshank across Europe which around 400,000 pairs.
